Martial KOUNOU

“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God (…)” 1 Timothy 6:17
It is an undeniable fact that whoever we are, wherever on this planet we live, whether we are a Christian or not, living a dignified life requires that we have a minimum of material things. Proverbs 30:8-9 (AMP) reads “(…) Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is my portion, so that I will not be full and deny You and say, “Who is the LORD?” Or that I will not be poor and steal, and so profane the name of my God.”
God is perfectly able to make everyone rich. But I believe one reason why he is careful about lavishing some people with riches is their evident low or lack of ability to handle much (John 25:15). The fact is that by the time such people access more than they can handle, they are likely to shift their trust from the originator (God) to the riches and will therefore destroy themselves.
In the process of raising our ability, which is a prerequisite to attracting more, we need to take our classes about riches and understand the following few things about them:
1. *Like money, riches are an excellent servant but a terrible master; trust not in them*: _“riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven” Proverbs 23:5_.
2. Materialism can kill spirituality: Balaam’s life is an open book we can learn from. Because of material things, a gifted prophet like him could not see what his donkey could see clearly. What is that material thing that is holding you far from God? Please never be a believer that has a price. Be that person of whom people say, “no matter what you give him/her, he will never compromise.”
3. *A heart/soul set on riches shall not enjoy them*: We can learn from the rich man of Luke 12:16-23. The Lord called him “Fool” because he set his soul on material things. Matthew 6:21 teaches us that “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also”
4. We should at all times gather riches in the right way knowing that “As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool” Jeremiah 17:11._
God bless you!
